I have a Steelseries Merc Stealth keyboard. I love it to death but it’s no longer in production and replacement parts are nigh impossible to obtain. On the left side of the board (the “game pad”) my second A key has gone soft. It’s still usable but I feel it’s only a matter of time before it’s dead. I’ve opened it up and attempted to fix it before but to my dismay, discovered the rubber membrane itself has become torn from use. Is there a way to patch the tear? The tear itself is, of course, along the edge of the ring of the nipple/rubber spring.
Nathanial Arquette other than trying to scrounge a used membrane from places like ebay.com craigslist.com or garage sales, I can only think of repairing the membrane with a product from Caig. It is CaiKote-44 and should work for it. Check this video and this one for a different product. all this will of course depend on how bad the membrane is tore so some additional silicone glue might help with that.
All of us with the Merc Stealth keyboard have the same problem. The key membrane was made as cheaply as possible. I have complained to SteelSeries, more complaints would help. If we could organize, we could buy the patent.
