The E3 code on the Maytag washer machine comes on during the spin cycle then it stops. The clothes are very wet. Is this a motor issue? How hard is this for a homeowner to do? Thanks Update (05/08/2019) Just to be clear, the machine will fill and agitate. The code comes in, and the machine stops, once it enters the spin cycle. Is this still the control board?
The E3 error means that the control board is detecting current going to the motor, but the motor won’t turn properly. If the error code comes up all the time as soon as you press the power on button, then it means your control board is bad and reading incorrectly.
Hi @Mark Forster I don’t know but looking at the parts for the washer there are three different control board variants, all no longer available. Two seem to be for use with a sensor and one not. Looking at the instruction sheet for the boards with manufacturer’s part # 34001494 & 34001495 (the two boards with sensors) it shows that the sensor is connected to CN11 (see p.1 image), so maybe you got the wrong board i.e. part # 34001498 (it just lists the part number for Item #17, no mention of CN11 either way) I think that the tub sensor is connected to CN11. This sensor is used to detect an unbalanced load in the washer. Looking online it seems that the board part number may be tied in with the serial number of the machine so maybe they changed it at sometime during manufacture of the model.
I had the exact same issue as Mark Forster did. Same washer same board with the CN11 plug missing. The answer I got was that the plug was missing because the function was added to the board itself, I think. But, the absolute impression I do remember getting is that the plug you held in your hand was now unnecessary. The reason my memory is shady here is because that’s been 11 years ago, and the washer and replacement board has been going strong ever since. I did have to replace the pump twice.. due to nickles and dimes, grrr.
