Chosen Solution

I am trying to repair my 3DS XL (original) since the hinge broke on the power LED side. The few videos I’ve seen show the ribbon side going in first, then opening the top part of the case and putting the barrel in. However, all the videos I’ve seen do a jump edit and the barrel is plunged deep into the top part towards the top LCD with no indication of how they got it there. I can’t seem to force it in there and I don’t want to break anything. I’d rather not remove the other screen if I don’t have to, and it doesn’t look like it has enough clearance to fit in from the other way even if I did that. Any help would be appreciated.

Nevermind, I bought another barrel because I suspected it may be shot, and it looks like I grabbed the old one by mistake when putting it together. Switched barrels and it slid right in.

I found that the barrel (black plastic on one end and white on the other) had gotten turned and was not lined up. Two pliers with one holding the black side (flat part) and the other on the white plastic got them lined up and then it would push all the way into the lcd side of the housing. I also tried putting the barrel into the lcd housing and turning it with one plier while pushing. I believe that worked better. Sorry to necro this but hopefully it will help some frustrated soul.

Is there like a precise angel it has to be for it to fit in? (IE., the exact degree it has to be at) because “almost opened” has the same meaning as half empty/ full. Also how do you know when the axel barrel (hinge) is defective? I’m looking answers that are as specific as possible and I hope someone out there can answer my And many other’s questions. Please and have a nice day.
