Hi there ! I have seen a few tutorials running on the internet about how to upgrade an old Macbook Pro Airport card to get extra features (such as unlocking with apple watch) and better connectivity by purchasing a newer Airport card and inserting it in the older system. They appear to be compatible. Are these Airport cards the same as in the 2013 MacBook Pro? Is it possible to upgrade to a newer card and is this something I can upgrade at home as well? Thanks for helping !
To start off the new ‘13 MacPro’s have 802.11ac Airport cards and they have a newer version which offers MIMO services. The Airport card offers Bluetooth 4.0 services as well I haven’t tried using an Apple Watch to unlock the system so I can’t tell you if it works or not. Sadly, I can’t test it as our corporate standards won’t permit this. What I can tell you is it does support handoff as reference here and it states it works! System requirements for Continuity on Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch So the bottom line here is no hardware alterations should be needed!
can you please tell me where to buy the updated airport card? This bluetooth problem have been driving me nuts.
