I recently purchased a used original Macbook Air 2008 model and fixed a few minor issues: Bad Internal Battery (was toasted), new MagSafe Charger & HD’s missing Rubber gasket. Also fixed some dents to external casing. I’m sure that someone else has opened this thing up since 2008 for better or worse. The only other issue I have’t been able to iron out is that the speakers and the headphone jack will not output sound. I’ve attempted reseting the internal connector of the jack with a pick, checked over all sound settings, clearing PRAM, But no fix. The computer works great otherwise the USB connector works well the Back lit keyboard works, Screen is great, Everything but the sound works. My hope is that its not an issue with the sound board. I have ordered a NOS speaker assembly since it wasn’t very expensive. I like this laptop and it got it for $110 used so spending a little $$ to repair it is all good with me. I never could have bought it new. Any Help wold be appreciated.

If both the speaker and the headphone jack are not working that would imply the Audio board needs replacing. Here’s the IFIXIT guide: MacBook Air Models A1237 and A1304 Audio Board Replacement You’ll need to find out what your exact model is here are there are two versions. Your other option here is to use a USB sound card but then you’ll need to use an external speaker.

there are many fixes to this.as it is a faulty one, open up the mac and check the motherboard for any compnents of sorts that appear non functional near to the 3.7mm jack. check continuity for any cracked components. take some acetone(nail polish remover), earbuds and blue tack. use these carefully to remove dirt.if problem persists, desolder the jackand replace it. if even that dosent work, try exposing the connector of the speakers and connect the terminals of a 9v batt to test if it works. if not, go to a reputed apple service shop.
