I get sound but no picture and a green background. I turn on and off several times until picture shows up Update (02/09/2017) its a 42LG60 and how do you access these parts

It sounds like you may have a bad LVDS cable. It is the one going to the timing control board from the main board. The model number would be very helpful. The earlier vintages used a cable made made up from twisted pares, similar to a cat5 cable, and gave lots of problems. If it has flat ribbon cables, you maybe looking at a timing control board that is getting flaky or a funky main board.

@pazely sounds like a possibility this is caused by bad caps or IC’s. You do want to go ahead and remove the back of your TV set and take a look at the power board etc. to see if there are any visible bad parts. Check for domed or leaking capacitors. If you can, take plenty of pictures of your boards and post those with your answers. Use this guide for that. It will aloow us to see what you see. You may also require a multimeter for some basic checks. Let us know if you have those tools
