I have an iMac 27" late 2009 Core i7, A1312 EMC 2394 I need to upgrade the video card and I found the one I need but it is listed as fitting an iMac with the A1312 identifier but I see 2011 as the year. CARD: Apple iMac 27" A1312 2011 AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1GB Video Card with Heat Sink  Just need to double check that the card will fit my 2009 iMac with the 1312 identifier.  Am I correct? Update (10/11/2018) OK so will the AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB - P/N 661-5968 fit in my iMac?

Your system came in with two video board configurations: 2009 27” ATI Radeon HD 4670 256 MB - P/N 661-5314ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB - P/N 661-5315 2011 27” AMD Radeon HD 6770 512 MB - P/N 661-5967AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB - P/N 661-5968AMD Radeon HD 6970 2 BB - P/N 661-5969 Here’s some useful info on the different boards: ATI Radeon HD 4670ATI Radeon HD 4850AMD Radeon HD 6770 As for using the newer board, well… Yes & No ;-{ Yes the board is a MXM compatible board (sticking with a real Apple ID’ed board) But, the heatsink is different as such you’ll need to take your heatsink off your current board and attach it to your new board. In addition the heat sink is slightly smaller so you’ll need to monitor your temps so you don’t overheat your new GPU. You will need to redo the thermal paste and the VRAM chips will need thermal pads. As what you are planning on doing you may find the cost is not worth it. These boards are expensive! And your system while still a great system is limited moving forward. It might make sense jumping to a 2011 27” system which has the better board. In any case neither will support Metal services so you’re limited as upgrading to Mojave won’t be possible as Apple doesn’t support it on these older systems.
