I pulled my laptop out of my backpack a few weeks back and it would not power up. It’s a mid 2010 15” Unibody i7 2.66 GHz with 8GB RAM and two SSDs (1.5TB total). When I press the power button: I don’t hear fan spin upThe screen backlight does not turn on.There is no boot chimeThe status indicator light on the front of the top cover does, in fact, turn on.Magsafe turns green and then amber when battery is connected. When the battery is disconnected it is only green. With the case open, I have been able to get the fans to spin by disconnecting the battery and first pressing the power button, then plugging the magsafe in. I don’t think I’ve been able to reset the PRAM and SMC successfully as it doesn’t seem to get past post. Also, I hooked the laptop. I’m not a logic board repair person by any means, but I’m thinking maybe the thermal paste on the GPU and CPU needed replacement and those components may have overheated. I noticed the laptop got pretty warm before this failure happened. Any and all help is appreciated.
After looking up some more solutions on the web I ended up baking the logic board in the oven and that fixed it. I think it was the GPU and it needed a reflow. It was down for weeks and I’m typing this message on it now. Thank you very much for the help.
Go for a spontaneous restart. Disconnect the mag-safe then the battery from the logic board. Press and hold the power button for 10 seconds. Reconnect the battery then the mag-Safe. It should restart on its own.
