My iMac won’t load a CD so I can make music discs for my car. I’ve had this problem intermittently in the past. After I upgraded to software previous to Yosemite I could not insert a disc into the CDROM drive if ITunes was open. If I closed iTunes, it would mount on the desktop and then I could open iTunes and burn a CD. I suspect Apple doesn’t care about CDROM drives anymore because they aren’t in the newer machines. I insert the CD into the drive and I get 4 or 5 buzzing sounds and then the disk ejects. I’ve repaired permissions and even reset the PRAM and I can’t get it working. Anybody else experiencing this?
I have a Mid ‘11 iMac which is running the latest version of OS-X & iTunes. I just created an audio CD from my library without any problems. Given the age of your system I think you have a dirty or bad burner. It doesn’t take much dust to mess you up here. How about getting a CD/DVD cleaning disk to try cleaning your drive. Otherwise I think you’ll need to replace it, or get an external CD/DVD or even a Blu-Ray burner.
