I recently removed the LED Driver on my Mac Air 820-00165. Once I received the new one in the mail I attempted to replace it. I must have rubbed the writing off with alcohol and I had to guess which way to put it on. Not only did the backlight not work but the Mac won’t even turn on or show a green light on charger. I guess my question it: Would putting the Driver on the wrong way cause the mac to be completely dead or do I have a bigger problem on my hands? Is it as simple at removing that one, cleaning the pads and putting a new one on? I am afraid that even if I get a new driver and put it on correctly, I did some other damage to the board or nearby components.

Which LED driver; the keyboard LED or the display LED? Either way, putting it on in the wrong orientation can certainly cause issues with the proper function of the motherboard. You may also have caused other damage as well but without knowing the orientation and what pins went where, it’s impossible to say. The best bet is to get a new driver, install it the proper way and see what happens. If the motherboard has other issue, then we can troubleshoot those once they are clear.
