Hi, a few months ago I opened my MacBook and saw really intense colors and closed it. I opened it and everything was normal. I put it to sleep and when I opened the next morning the intense colors were back. The colors seem off balanced and over saturated. This is what I see:
I took a screenshot of the screen and sent it to myself and this is what y MacBook thinks it sees:
External screens displays normal. Can anyone entertain ideas of which part has failed? Thank you. Update (01/08/2020) Thank you very much! The external screen shows a clean image. I was hoping I could avoid replacing the screen, but if that’s the way it has to be. Thank you again for your insight!
If the external shows a clean image then you know the logic board is OK and your issue is within the internal displays logic (TCON board) which is located within the main case as is part of the display assembly as you can see here
And here’s a deeper look
Sadly you’ll need a new display assembly MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Late 2016-2017) Display Assembly and here’s the guide to replace it MacBook Pro 15" Touch Bar Late 2016 Screen Replacement
A correct image on the external screen and on screenshot together with initial behavior should point to a faulty screen but would need a known good screen for confirmation, since we still have circuits and EDP cable driving image from the logic board to the panel.
