The other day I cracked the screen to my iPad mini 1st gen. I tried to replace the digitizer myself and when I finally finished installing it and booted up my iPad, the lcd had lines all over and it looked horrible. The display does not update immediately together, there is a section on the top of the screen that updates right away, and the section on the right updates slowly and lags behind, sometimes freezing and then popping into place. I’m not sure if the lcd is straight up broken because there are no dead pixels and they all update eventually. I’m fairly certain that the problem here is that the lcd connection isn’t seated properly because last night I opened the iPad again and unplugged and plugged in the digitizer and lcd connectors. After doing this the display worked just fine again and the picture was as clear as it could be. I tested it out for a few minutes to see if it would continue to work properly. After a few minutes of working, the screen went back to what it was doing before. I’ve seen this kind of fix for the iPad 2 using electrical tape to put more pressure on the connector, but nothing with this kind of iPad. I’d hate to have this totally reassembled and have the lcd stop working, especially since I want to take this on vacation with me next month and I’d love to be able to face time my dad, who will be taking care of my daughter while I’m away. There is a bracket that holds the LCD connector (see step 51-52 of this guide) in place so you shouldn’t need any additional tape. I would also look at the condition of the flex cables. You may have pinched the LCD flex which could cause intermittent issues.
@hungryfish ,Aaron , If you are thinking it could be the LCD connection, disconnect the connection clean it with a Qtip dampened with 90%+ Isopropyl Alcohol(both connection points) and make sure none of the connector pins are bent, if bent very carefully straighten with tooth pick. Reconnect LCD to board, place a piece of electrical tape over connection to help hold connection in place, then shave down a piece of foam rubber/ wider elastic band/or something similar(not too thick) to put on top of taped connection, so when case/back reattached pressure will be kept on connection keeping it tight(again not too thick as you do not want to cause damage).
