My iPhone 5 is stuck on a boot loop. At first the phone battery would drain within seconds. Even when the phone was connected to a power source, it would overheat or shut down due to lack of battery periodically. The overheating may have also caused damage. Then the boot looping started, which after the battery was replaced with no improvement. I tried to update the phone and it failed, now the phone no longer loops. Instead, it powers down after the boot screen with the apple logo. Resetting the phone is not preferable as that erases all its content. Could replacing the U2 IC and/or some other parts resolve the issue and have the iPhone boot up with all the data intact?

There could be several causes to the boot-loop you are experiencing. How did this occur at first; was it following a drop/impact, a repair attempt or after contact with water? If you have already tried a replacement battery, one thing from a DIY perspective you could try is to disconnect the screen (always disconnect the battery first) and then connect it to an iTunes enabled computer to see if it will boot properly and be recognized by iTunes. In that case, if you don’t have a passcode and the device is already trusted, you should be able to backup the data. Tools such as 3uTools can help you recover individual data types such as pictures if that’s all you care about. Otherwise, if the screen doesn’t make a difference, you should consider having your device looked at by an experienced micro-solderer to see if the phone is fixable or the data recoverable.
