Hello, My iphone 6s is no longer charging or turning on. I noticed the charging cable I was using is no longer working, the cable won’t charge a different phone either, nor will the 6s charge with a different cable. My theory as to why the phone stopped working is that the phone was nearby when I was drilling into some metal at work, and I’m guessing some metal dust got into the charging port which probably caused a short. I have since replaced the entire charging port assembly and it still does not work. The connection at the end of one of the cables coming from the port assembly was not snapping/staying in place so I put a small piece of tape over it to keep it in place, could this piece of tape be preventing other parts from making a needed electrical connection? I have since ordered another charging port to see if replacing it again will work, I’ve also ordered another battery to replace the existing one. Thank you kindly for any info

If the connector is not snapping in place, no amount of tape will make it connect properly…electrically speaking. The connector should “snap” into place. If it isn’t then either the board or flex connector is damaged. Sometimes on damaged side can damage the other side. So take a close look at them, preferably with magnification and replace as required. If the board connector is damaged, then it can only be replaced via a micro-soldering repair.
